Activities > Duart Castle, Mull

Duart Castle, on the Isle of Mull in Scotland is the ancestral home of the Clan Maclean. Standing proudly on a clifftop guarding the Sound of Mull, Duart enjoys one of the most spectacular and unique positions on the West Coast of Scotland. Duart Castle and its grounds are open to the public from April to mid October. There is a carpark, and the byre just below the Castle has been converted into an unusual and attractive tearoom and gift shop.

Visitors may walk through the dungeons and state rooms at their leisure, ending on the top of the keep where it is easy to appreciate the strategic site of the castle.

There is a designated children's tour within the castle. Collect the first introductory card as you purchase your ticket and see if you can find and follow the trail around the castle.
Outside you can ride on a cannon or hire a kite or a game of boule. Several of the events are specifically for children and most can be enjoyed by families.

The ferry journey from Oban takes 45 minutes to Craignure, on the Isle of Mull. At Craignure, the Duart Coach, meets the ferry and the coach trip to the castle takes 10 minutes.
