The Jacobite Steam Train is the most scenic way to travel from Fort William to Mallaig. Passengers can choose to travel one way en route to the Isle of Skye or opt for the 84 mile round trip. The train stops at the village of Glenfinnan, the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745. The steam train is famous for appearing in the Harry Potter films and the scene where the Hogwarts Express travels across a viaduct was filmed on the famous 21 arch Glenfinnan Viaduct.
The train stops en route to Mallaig at the village of Glenfinnan in the station giving you time to stretch your legs and visit the museum in the station buildings.
Beyond are the villages of Lochailort, Arisaig, Morar and Mallaig. On a clear summer's day from Arisaig you can see the "Small Isles" of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye. From there the train passes Morar and the silvery beaches used in the films "Highlander" and "Local Hero"

Mallaig
Arriving in Mallaig you have over an hour and a half to take in the atmosphere of this busy fishing port and ferry terminal. There are shops, bars, restaurants and plenty of fish and chips to be enjoyed during the lunchtime stopover. The Mallaig Heritage Centre traces Mallaig’s history from its founding in the 1840s and the establishment of the fishing industry, to the coming of the railroad and modern industrialization.
The train is operated by West Coast Railways
